About The Area

Summerville SC

Summerville, South Carolina, located in Dorchester County, is a gracious Southern town steeped in history. In the early 1900's, Summerville became a winter resort for Northerners who came to enjoy the mild climate; the most notable being Theodore Roosevelt.

Only a thirty-five minute drive from Historic Downtown Charleston, Summerville, the largest city in Dorchester County with 35,000 inhabitants, still retains a small town atmosphere, with friendly people and a charming Main Street lined with quaint shops reminiscent of an earlier time.

Summerville's mild climate makes recreational activities available year round. There are ample golf facilities, along with hunting, boating, fishing and equestrian activities. A full range of youth recreation leagues and programs also operate during the whole year.

While still retaining its beautifully preserved past, Summerville has adhered to the modern age with the addition of new subdivisions, ranging from economical condominiums to country club residential developments. Excellent schools, attractive shopping center, and top medical and recreational facilities make for a well-rounded community.

When you consider all it's viable features, the delightful town of Summerville is a wonderful place to call home.

Summerville was voted one of the top 6 places in the country to retire, as noted in Kiplinger's June, 1998 issue.
